What Are Vehicle Export Documents?
Vehicle export documents are the official paperwork you need to export a vehicle from the Netherlands to another country. The most important document is the RDW export document. This document is prepared by an RDW-recognized company and proves that the vehicle has been deregistered from the Dutch license plate registry. Without this document, the vehicle cannot be registered in the destination country.

Which Documents Do You Need?
To have export documents prepared, you need to bring a number of documents to our office. It is important that both the Dutch owner and the foreign buyer provide the correct documents. Without the complete documentation, the export document cannot be prepared. Below you will find an overview per party.

When preparing export documents, two essential documents are issued: the export document and the proof of discharge. Both documents serve a specific purpose and are indispensable when exporting a vehicle from the Netherlands.
The Export Document
The export document is the official RDW document that deregisters the vehicle from the Dutch license plate registry. This document is required for registering the vehicle in the destination country. It is prepared by our RDW-recognized team and is internationally accepted.

Export Documents With or Without Export Insurance?
When preparing export documents, you can choose whether you only need the export document, or whether you also want export insurance with export license plates. This depends on how the vehicle will be transported to the destination country.
When do you need export insurance?

- Riding a motorcycle abroad for export
Export document only is sufficient
- Transporting the vehicle on a trailer or flatbed

The export insurance is a temporary liability insurance valid for 2 weeks. With the insurance, you receive export license plates that allow you to legally drive on European public roads. Need more time? You can extend the insurance by 2 additional weeks for €120.
