What is an RDW vehicle export office?
An RDW vehicle export office is a company officially recognized by the Dutch Vehicle Authority (RDW) to deregister vehicles from the Dutch license plate register for export abroad. Only recognized offices are authorized to do this - private individuals cannot request an export document directly from the RDW.
Auto Export Document in Hengelo is an officially recognized RDW export office that has been active since 2016. We process export files daily for private individuals, car dealers and foreign buyers from across the Netherlands and abroad. The registration document is surrendered, the vehicle deregistered, and you immediately receive the export document and proof of discharge.
The export document is internationally recognized and enables the foreign buyer to register the vehicle in their own country. The proof of discharge protects the Dutch seller against future liability, fines or damage claims related to the vehicle after the transfer.

Required documents for RDW vehicle export
To prepare official RDW vehicle export documents, both the Dutch seller and the foreign buyer must bring the correct paperwork to our office. Missing a document means the export cannot be processed.

- Registration document part I (kentekencard)
- Registration document part II (ownership certificate)
- Valid ID (passport or driving licence)

- Chamber of Commerce extract (companies only)

Note: the vehicle does not need to be present for the export document alone. For export insurance with yellow plates the license plates must be surrendered. Contact us if unsure.
RDW export license plates: yellow export plates explained
RDW export license plates - also called yellow export plates - are temporary license plates issued together with an export insurance policy. With these yellow plates you may legally drive on European roads while transporting the vehicle to its foreign destination.
The export plates are valid for 14 days and are linked to a third-party liability export insurance including a Green Card. You receive the yellow plates immediately at our office in Hengelo, together with the insurance policy and Green Card that you can show at border crossings.
When do you need export license plates?

- Driving the vehicle to the destination country
- Riding a motorcycle or scooter abroad for export
- Self-driving a camper to its foreign destination
Export document only is sufficient
- Transporting the vehicle on a trailer or flatbed
- Towing a caravan behind another vehicle
- Shipping a vehicle by carrier
Need more than 14 days? You can extend the export insurance for an additional 14 days for €120.
RDW caravan export insurance and caravan export document
Selling a caravan or trailer to a foreign buyer? You need the same RDW export documents as for a car. Our recognized office prepares export documents for all vehicles registered in the Dutch license plate register - including caravans, trailers, campers and motorcycles.
A separate RDW caravan export insurance is required when the caravan is moved independently on public roads. If the caravan is towed behind a vehicle with its own export insurance, the caravan is covered under that policy. If a foreign buyer tows the caravan behind their own foreign-registered vehicle, only the export document (€50) is needed.
