EX-A Document Application

An EX-A document is the electronic export declaration used when goods, in this case a vehicle, officially leave the European Union. A customs agent files the declaration in the Dutch customs system. EX stands for export, while A identifies a definitive declaration. After customs accepts it, you receive an MRN, or Movement Reference Number, which customs can scan at the EU border.

The document records the exporter and EORI number, the recipient in the destination country, the vehicle identification number, commodity code, vehicle value and destination. When the vehicle leaves through a customs office of exit, customs confirms the exit electronically. That confirmation provides permanent proof of export and can support a VAT refund.

The EX-A document does not replace the RDW export document. RDW deregistration is required for every vehicle export, while the EX-A is added only for destinations outside the EU. We arrange both documents for customers at our office in Hengelo.
